Lupus Diet

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect the entire body. When the immune system starts attacking the body, it can lead to a variety of different symptoms, including fatigue, fever, weakness and rash. Because the body is constantly in need to repair itself, it is best for those who have lupus to go on a lupus diet.

There is no one specific lupus diet on the market, but there are some very good ideas to follow in order to make the food easier to digest. Giving your digestive system an easy diet makes it easier for the body to repair itself as well.

There are some foods that should be avoided if you are trying to give our digestives system an easy-to-digest diet.

  • Carbohydrates – Foods that are high in sugar, or break down into sugar, such as fruit, bread and noodles, should be avoided.
  • Alfalfa Sprouts – Alfalfa Sprouts are high in amino acid which can aggravate a lupus condition.
  • Deep Fried/Highly Processed Foods – Any food that is difficult for your body to digest, such as fried foods and foods that have a large amount of preservatives, are difficult for the body to digest and should be avoided, especially when a break-out occurs.
  • Certain Vegetables – Some vegetables, such as tomatoes and peppers, are very high in acid and can, like alfalfa sprouts, make a lupus sufferer break-out.

Because people with Lupus can get sick easier, especially those that are taking immunosuppressant drugs, it is a good idea for all Lupus sufferers to eat a well-balanced, nutritious diet. And, as always, whenever you don’t feel well it is always good to look to chicken soup. It is full of nutrients and is one of the easiest things for the body to digest.
